What book are you reading?
on: 7:32 am Wednesday, March 30, 2016
I like to read various types of books. Sometimes I'll need something light, and will borrow a cozy mystery, romance, or something similar from the library, or download a free or inexpensive one via Kindle. Other times, I will want to delve into something really meaty. That's what I'm doing right now. I just finished reading a book about the Fort Hood Terrorist Bombing that happened in 2009 here in Texas, and now I'm reading another heavy one. This one's heavy both literally and figuratively. It's 548 pages, and is called Days of Rage. It's about the leftist domestic terrorists active here in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. I have to finish and return it by next Monday, because I've already renewed the maximum amount of times, so that's my goal for the next week. Mysteries and true crime stories are some of my favorites.

So, what are you reading? Do you have a preference for deep or superficial books? What's your favorite genre?

Those are pretty interesting choices for reading materials, do you read for fun or for study?

I love reading science fiction or general fiction books. I prefer award-winning novels just so I know I'm reading something of quality. I'm currently reading Night Film by Marisha Pessl and Hector Discovers the Secret to Happiness. I guess I just like to be entertained by stories in my spare time.

I read mainly for fun @NorthernLights, but I also like to learn, and have a very curious mind. I wasn't able to finish reading Days of Rage. I was about 3/4 of the way through it and had to return it to the library, as I'd already extended it as many times as possible. I will probably check that and another in that batch out again, when I have more time to read them. Public Enemies was the other one from that batch that I didn't have the time to read. It's by the same author as Days of Rage, and is about the gangsters from the 1920s and 1930s here in the United States.

What is Night Film about? I have other books that I read bits and pieces off when I have spare time, and one is The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. It talks about steps she's taken to increase her level of happiness, and that's something I think we can all use more of in our lives.

I hear ya it's hard to finish a book sometimes and it's not because you hate it's just like you fell out of touch with it or something. LOL. I have a lot of unfinished books that I occasionally go back to.

Night Film is great if you like thrillers and investigative journalism type genres. It's like a spiritual predecessor of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Have you watched the movie or read the book? Daniel Craig who played James Bond is in it, you might like it.

I also read both for learning as well as for relaxing and entertainment. The books that I read for studying, I like to buy, so that I have them available  for reference when i want to check back about something that I have read. Actually, I much prefer real paper books to digital ones for that, although it is noce not to have to worry about storage with the digital books.
Also, digital books can have better pictures and even embedded videos, or clickable links to webpages; and that is a definite plus when you are studying something.
If I am just reading for entertainment, then I will usually choose digital and read them on the Kindle Fire.
I can also read books on the ipad; but since I have the external keyboard on the ipad, it is much simpler to just read with the Kindle, an easier to take along if I am going somewhere and want to be able to read (like a doctor appointment) while I am waiting.

currently i'm reading, "damaged: the heartbreaking true story of a lost little girl", written by cathy glass (UK foster carer)

i love her books, but they are very emotional sometimes

this one is about jodie, who was abused by her family and suffers lasting affects (such as flashbacks from the abuse, difficult behaviour, etc)

it's up to cathy to try and help her

I'm currently reading the second book of The Blade Itself trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. It's amazing if you like fantasy.
