The Orphan

When I hired this movie I thought it would be a scary one. In fact, I was a little afraid to watch it.

But it’s not. Not really. I mean it definitely has scary or creepy parts to it but overall it’s not all that scary.

That said though…now I don’t want to adopt! That’s wearing off though as I watched it last night and Orphans have since returned to being charming and cute individuals you just want to pick up and hug until they can’t breathe.

Essentially the movie is about a couple who have lost a child and decide to adopt. They already have 2 children, a boy and a girl, one of whom is deaf. They adopt a “special” girl they fall in love with at the orphanage and before long things start turning sour. At first it’s just little things, warning signs something is not quite right and then it becomes much more sinister over time as this little girls past is uncovered.

I liked this movie a lot, even though it temporarily terrified the crap out of me and turned me off adopting!

Find out more about The Orphan on IMDb. Beware the trailer is full of spoilers beyond 1m mark (stop when “there’s something wrong with Esther” comes up!)

From IMDb:

A husband and wife who recently lost their baby adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be. Written by Anonymous

Honestly I saw this movie at first when I was a kid. (I’m 18 now.) Back then though, I was scared of everything so I was pretty terrified of this movie. But I mean, really? It seems so illogical now…like how could the “kid” be at the orphanage so long with out someone being like “You’re 18 now get out!” Unless I can’t remember something from the movie since it’s been maybe…6 years since I’ve seen it? My memory is horrible.

I loved loved loved this movie. Vera Farmiga, who plays the mom, is one of my favorite actresses of all time. I think this movie was creepy and weird without going too overboard.

I absolutely loved this movie! I am a bit of a suspense buff, but I had no idea that I would feel like I wanted to take this child in and fix her. I guess that quality is just in my DNA. Isabella Fuhrman was great in this role. She was able to show both a sweet and sinister side that was totally believable. Vera Farmiga was just as superb.

I remember watching this movie. The part that got to me was when the little girl broke her arm and you could see the bone sticking out. I have never been that squeamish before. All I could think of is that it must suck to be a grown woman still stuck in a child’s body.

I enjoyed this movie as well. I also found it a bit creepy. I agree it turned me off from adoption. I found the movie very anxiety filling. I think I would classify it as a thriller rather than a “scary movie.” The characters and plot were captivating though. I liked the deaf boy and the dad whom seemed most gullible to me.

The Orphan was one of the creepiest movies I’ve ever seen. I mean people looking to adopt are people who are willing to give everything to have a baby girl or boy. And to suddenly realize that you adopt a crazy young (or old) woman it’s so terrifying. I remember after watching the movie to said to myself never to adopt, or at least, don’t adopt a young kid. If I ever think on adopting it would be a baby or newly born baby. It is a good movie, different and creepy (not scary) movie, unlike the rest of the “scary” movies that at the end of the day they all have the same summary. It’s worth watching at least once in your life.

I don’t know what it is about kids in scary movies that haunts me so much. This movie freaked me out for weeks and I saw it when I was 13 or something like that. The thing is that I absolutely adore scary movies but I have my limits. The movie is really good and the acting is stellar for such young kids. I was impressed! Great review! 🙂
